The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore has opened its seventh major annual exhibition. On the theme of The Art of War and Peace: Toward an End to Hatred, it runs until September 1st. Guest curator, Michael Bonesteel has successfully amassed a host of powerful, moving works on a theme that carries a timely message...

...Tom Duncan's boyhood experiences in Scotland in WWII led him to express the dramas and horrors of those times. His little tableaux of landscapes and figures, encased in glass-fronted boxes, are a strange mixture of toy and tragedy, their dusty and timeless air give the impression of faded war-time souvenirs, and yet the chilling model of a concentration camp, made as if a toy for a German child to play with in Nazi times, bring his work sharply into focus...
