Andrew Edlin Gallery is pleased to announce
On the Outskirts : Art Brut, Neuve Invention and Outsider Art
from January 20 - 31, 2004 , the third in a series of
exhibits of that have taken place during a
major art fair taking place close by. The first two events were in
Miami Beach, Florida during Art Basel Miami Beach (Dec. 4 - 7,
2003) and Art Miami (Jan. 7 - 11, 2004). Thislast exhibit will take
place at the gallery itself during the Outsider Art Fair in New
York City.
The first two exhibits were designed to highlight the place of
Outsider Art within the context of the Contemporary Art World, whose
attention was clearly focused on Miami Beach for the Art Basel event
as well as the smaller N.A.D.A.
and Scope art fairs. The dramatic success of the first "On the
Outskirts..." has propelled the gallery to return one month later
for the smaller but long-established Art Miami, also at the Miami
Beach Convention Center.
This exhibit will, like its two predecessors, bring together the
gallery's artists with historical names in the field. A recently
acquired drawing by Adolf Wölfli will be one of the show's
highlights together with works by Henry Darger, Bill Traylor,
Charles Dellschau, and Martin Ramirez. Also featured will be major
works by Hans Krüsi(1920-1995) never seen before in North America
and works by Swiss artist brut Carl Binder(1913-1985) whom the
gallery only recently discovered.
A cocktail reception on Friday, January 23
from 6 - 10pm will be open to the public. |
