Andrew Edlin Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of paintings
by Michael Ryan.
Show dates are June 12 - July 12, 2003.
Ryan's
paintings invoke haunting and dreamlike worlds. The artist paints
intuitively, using a loose, expressive style and draws from a rich but dark
palette with instinctively placed sweeps and dashes of vermillion, gold, and acrid green.
His stormy, apocalyptic landscapes are inhabited by strange animals
that often possess human features.
Now 53, Ryan has been painting for 14 years. Ryan's technique is
basically self-taught though he has studied the actual chemistry of
paint and devised his own method of combining powdered pigments,
epoxies, pastels, and washes.
This marks his second solo exhibit with the gallery. His first show
was at the Noyes Museum in New Jersey 1996. |
