Andrew Edlin Gallery
is pleased to present
Apparitions, a group exhibit featuring artists Daniel Belardinelli,
J.J. Cromer, and T.V.- Tommy Vision.Show
dates are June 13 - July 20, 2002.
Using various
techniques and materials,
the artists in Apparitions are
all self-taught and united by their use of archetypal symbols. Animals and
primitive beast-like figures are interspersed with human faces, suggesting
raw psychological states such
as paranoia, confusion, panic, and ferocity.
Daniel
Belardinelli uses pictographic
street-markings on various surfaces
to create a deliberate kind of unschooled graphic tableau. Combining random
text
and occasional legal terms (he is a non-practicing lawyer) his art makes
poetic appropriations in a field of imagery that presents people, animals,
and monsters as sub-human figures.
J.J.Cromer
works with acrylic, oil paint and ink on paper. His images
focus on a dominant trance-like human face that upon closer inspection,
houses layers of small animals, plantlife, and countless smaller faces drawn
in exquisite detail.
T.V.- Tommy
Vision
uses stones, glass, seashells, coins, tiles and other
found materials as components in his striking portraits of unapologetic
figures that stare fiercely back at the viewer.
Gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday 11 - 6PM. |
